Turtle-Doves

Our group's headquarters for turtle-dove trips was somewhere 50 kilometers around Aleppo, Syria. We decided to have a house for our own, a village mud-made house where we would spend 10 full days in Spring and as much in each fall. The dove season extends from April 25th till end of may and in autumn from the last days of August till September 15th, the feast of the Cross. We would be away from the comfort and the noise of the city and ready to live a rural and peaceful fortnight.

The rudimentary but quite useful kitchen where we would satisfy our hunger !
Raymond Najjar, on his morning's wash !
Lunching at home ! Oscar, Gaby and myself enjoying a home-made kebab !
Crossing small streams, three options: get wet (Oscar), ride someone (Edmond Asseili) or stay dry ( Raymond the photographer) !
..........on larger streams, one option : take the available boat, in this instance, a huge saucepan used for boiling grains in normal times and converted to a boat for crossing rivers, when needed !
A 9-kilo desert bustard (outarde) bagged in the Syrian desert. With Jamil our guide.
The 3-best ever guns on turtle-doves: Elias Haddad, Edmond Asseili and Oscar Asly. In a pistacio orchard 100-kilometers from Aleppo (Syria).
Oscar and I with our 10-days hunt, at the Cold Store in Aleppo.
Turtledoves bagged during our 10-days hunting trip in the Djezireh region (Syria).
It was indeed a successful trip ! Though I would not dare to give the real number !
