What are they? They are two similar interactive DHTML applications that translate keyed in text, into Hungarian runic script on your Web browser. Raster fonts used in the transliterators were drawn by the Runic Text Editor,

Transliterator #1 writes translated script in right-to-left (RTL) write-direction only. It writes one line at a time, and has 40 characters line capacity. This is a rather small translator, but runs fast enough.

Transliterator #2 is a bit more advanced. It writes in both LTR and RTL directions on multi lines, plays optionally user selectable background music from its small repertoire. The runic write-pad has capacity for 150 characters. Its music library may be changed, extended, and the 150 character size limit is changeable.

Feel free to copy, and/or to modify the Transliterators as you please, and distribute them for non-commercial purpose only. Those who pay by the minute for their internet service could save either or both of these transliterators and their associated files into a disk library, and recall the programs when offline. If you need more functions the Runic Text Editor is recommended. And for those who are already familiar with Hungarian runics and have Word on their PC, may download G. Hosszu's TTF runic fonts from his homepage.

Limitations: Only the 38 letter Hungarian alphabet (a to zs), the space character, and a single runic symbol "AK" are recognized. Transliterator #1 works only on Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 or higher, while transliterator #2 needs IE version 5. May edit text-box contents using the keyboard keys only (not through clipboard).

Instructions: After you have read the rest of this page, click on one of the Start Transliterator labels below. Once on the Transliterator page, type Hungarian text letters from a to z in lower case. Exceptions: according to the following table. E.g., to get the Hu column Hungarian character say for example á, type in the Key column letter A.

Click Translate button to transcribe text. Click Clear button to erase it.
