THE ABBESS

Myōkyō began her training with Joshu Roshi in 1980, was ordained as a Zen monk in 1986 at Mt. Baldy Zen Center, and practiced at Mt. Baldy and Rinzai-ji Zen Centers in California and Bodhi Manda and Albuquerque Zen Centers in New Mexico before coming to Canada in 1995. She was ordained as a Zen Osho (Priest) in 1999, receiving the religious name Zengetsū, and continues to study with Joshu Roshi as part of her commitment to deepening her practice. In Montreal, Myōkyō is also involved in the larger Buddhist community, and in interreligious dialogue, and serves as an Associate Buddhist Chaplain at Concordia University and at McGill University.
